Internet Development in the People's Republic of China
Abstract
In the summer of 2003 I made my first blind stab at developing a web-based e-commerce
application to serve residents of the People's Republic of China. What I
discovered at every step of the way were unforeseen challenges. I soon realized that in
order to be effective in my development my first step would have to be to do some
serious research. This paper is a very limited look at some of the issues I encountered, as
well as some that I uncovered that I would undoubtedly have run into further into
development. I hope that this foundation of knowledge will facilitate future efforts to
create internationalized software that may be localized to serve the People's Republic of
China.
