Abstract
The SIP I choose to do was a summer internship with Pharmacia Corporation in Kalamazoo, MI. There are two main reasons that I chose to do this type of internship: 1. I worked for Pharmacia in a similar role the previous summer and 2. I knew that I wanted to do my SIP in the field of computer science. The work that I did for Pharmacia, in the most general sense, was intranet and database development. I was interested in the projects they were working on and thought the internship would offer me a challenge. The work I did for them the previous summer was in principle the same, but the projects I did for my SIP were more difficult, more complicated, and more involved. The overall focus of my SIP changed over the summer from how the intranet could benefit a large, worldwide corporation to the process required to make a global, intranet upgrade. I was able to participate in several computer-based projects for a company, which I found more appealing than conducting research.
