Abstract
Lupus nephritis is an autoimmune disorder which can be divided into six different classes depending on the severity of the patient's case. These cases must be looked at individually to determine what type of treatment would be best suited for the patient, whether it be steroids, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, reduction of environmental pollution, or a simple change in lifestyle. However, determining the correct treatment plan can be difficult provided that lupus nephritis mimics a great number of other diseases. The cause of lupus nephritis is unknown, however links have been found to environmental factors and heredity. New research is now being conducted to determine what is responsible for turning on the body's autoimmune response, and to determine more efficient ways of diagnosing and treating lupus nephritis. There is no cure for lupus nephritis; there are merely solutions to aid a patient during the time of flares, or the prevalence of symptoms.
