Abstract
During the Winter quarter of 1979-80, I had the opportunity to do volunteer work at the Reproductive Health Care Center/Planned Parenthood (RHCC) in Kalamazoo, Michigan. RHCC provided me with an in-depth look at a public health agency that supplies the reproductive health care needs for the people of south central Michigan. My reason for choosing this type of Senior Individualized Project (SIP), which involved work experience, was my desire to work with people in some type of health care situation. My experience could then serve to help determine whether or not to enter the nursing profession. Because my SIP was not of the more traditional, research-oriented form, it is to some extent experiential. Hopefully, the material presented here can be of use to other Health Science majors by pointing out both the advantages and disadvantages to this form of SIP. My project will consist of an introduction to the agency itself, a journal relating my daily activities there, and a brief discussion of the good points and the shortcomings of this experience.
