Abstract
In this review, we will discuss a group of inheritable diseases that are characterized by abnormal increases in the plasma concentrations of certain lipids. These diseases are congenital and represent a defect in lipid or lipoprotein metabolism. The genetic name given to these disorders is, "The Familial Hyperlipoproteinemias". In most cases, atherosclerosis characterize these diseases and premature death is common.
