In recent years, physicians and, in particular, gynecologists have found that an ever increasing proportion of their practices have been concerned with the reproductive healthcare of aging women. The sole reason for this development is the shifting population profile. In fact, there are more than thirty million women over the age of fifty in the United States today, and they have a life expectancy of an additional approximately twenty-eight years. The intention of this paper therefore, is to discuss the major reproductive milestone for this segment of the population, the menopause.
