Abstract
The first part of this paper will examine the reasons for the growth of the U.S.-Latin American Human Rights Lobby. It will present a brief historical overview of U.S-Latin American policy, and focus on the issue of Chile as a motivating force in the growth of the human rights movement. The paper will also offer evidence about the success of the human rights lobby, especially during the 1970s. The second part of this paper will discuss my internship with one a human rights organization, the Washington Office on Latin America.
