The Irish Republican Army
MetadataShow full item record
The purpose of this paper is to give a broad overview of the Irish Republican Army with a concentration on the years of 1961-72. There are several reasons why I wish to focus upon the decades of the sixties and the early years of the seventies. Foremost is the fact that the IRA was an organization at the throes of extinction in the early sixties only to rise up and become a power once more several years later. That in itself makes most interesting reading. Secondly, the years under question are a period of unbridled violence which enrage mankind and evoke an intense, morbid curiosity. Finally, the heinous activities of the IRA in the past fifteen years are fresh in the minds of many people and require discussion if' a solution is ever to be found for the Emerald Isle.
