Abstract
A close study of Bath and Wells reveals that the bishops were always an important factor in its administration. They influenced the composition and actions of not only their own staff, but also that of Wells Cathedral. Under the guidance of these bishops, and under the stress of the later fifteenth century, the ecclesiastical structures began to show signs of shifts away from the traditions and customs of the earlier middle ages.
