Writing a paper on the life style of any particular group at a given time is an extremely difficult task. The reasons for this are numerous. First-hand sources such as diaries, letters or journals are not always easily found and even when they are located do not always give much of the information sought after. Reminiscences are helpful, yet they are often "colored" writings, for the intervening years have often altered the writer's viewpoint. Second-hand sources can be a great help, if the information they give is taken with a grain of salt. While the information is usually truthful, it has often been slanted, too, to help the author prove some point. Facts may have simply been omitted, or perhaps emphasized beyond their importance.en_US
