William Penn and the Making of Pennsylvania's Government
Abstract
This S.I.P. is in fact the product of three quarters of work. In Autumn, 1984, I participated in the Newberry Library Seminar in the Humanities at the Newberry Library,
Chicago. The seminar's topic, "Crime and Justice in Literature and History from the Sixteenth through the Twentieth Centuries," fascinated me and allowed for an
interesting quarter, even though the subject was too broad for a lifetime of study, let alone fifteen weeks. My paper dealt with differing principles of political justice between
the proprietors and the colonists of Pennsylvania throughout colonial Pennsylvania history.
