MetadataShow full item record
This investigation will reveal the true extent of the influence that Johnson had on these major political changes. Before this can be examined, it is necessary to include a brief biography of LBJ in order to reveal aspects of his personality that contributed to these political shifts during his presidency. Without the knowledge of his past, it is more difficult to understand why Johnson acted the way he did. From this, the investigation will focus on these three major changes-the loss of trust in the president, the dissolution of the Solid South, and the failure of the Democrats to stay in power after years of political dominance-and the extent to which LBJ influenced these shifts. Finally, this study attempts answer the remaining question: why is Nixon remembered as the originator of these changes instead of Johnson? Altogether, this investigation will illuminate the importance of the Johnson administration in relation to these three major changes that have had such an effect on American politics and culture.
