Abstract
This project began in spring 2006 as a part of my junior seminar. I first looked
specifically at representations of gender in Disney's films of the 1950s, and later
expanded it to include Disney's earlier animated films and how all these films
contributed to the creation of a uniquely American consciousness. With this project I
wanted to use my love of Disney movies to gain a greater understanding and appreciation
of their appeal.
