    Abstract
The purpose of this project is to redesign the Transistor Gate circuit, first designed by Dr. Wayne M. Wright, using Integrated Circuits (ICs). Dr. wright's circuit was made by using only transistors. By using the ICs, the number of components is reduced considerably. This reduction of components is useful in the event a problem occurs within the circuit because the trouble can be traced and corrected more quickly. The electronic gating device will be used in the optics Laboratory. It's function in the optics Lab will be to generate a signal pulse, or tone burst, to be analyzed electronically and compared with the prediction of Fourier Analysis. The old Transistor Gate produced sine-wave bursts with some jitter in the repetition rate, thus the reason for the new electronic gating device. The gating device is designed to operate as an electronic switching device. The transmission gate is usually closed except for some brief period when a signal pulse from the oscillator passes through the gate. The operator decides on the length and duration of the signal pulse. Once set, the length and duration of the pulse are maintained automatically until the operator resets them.
