A Test-System for Automotive-Type Reactive Mufflers
Abstract
As the modern world became mechanized, the associated noise pollution was largely ignored, until recently. New interest in noise control and environmental protection has
pinpointed the internal combustion engine as a prime noise polluter. It is therefore appropriate that muffler design and theory become suitable subjects for the college and
graduate engineering student. But a search of the literature reveals no applicable lecture demonstration or basic laboratory experiments in this field. The project described herein attempted to fill the void with a muffler test-system
and model mufflers.
