Serotonin 2C Receptor Function in the Central Nervous System: An Autoradiographic Study

5-HT2C is a critical, widely distributed receptor in the CNS whose dysfunction may play a key role in many diseases including depression, anxiety, eating disorders, sexual dysfunction, and Parkinson's Disease. The Sokoloff method for [C14]2-DG Autoradiography was utilized to measure the physiological effects of a preferential 5-HT2C agonist and a selective 5-HT2C antagonist (S8 242084) in the discrete structures in the rat brain. The results support that S8 242084 may prove a useful antidepressant, analgesic, or treatment for Parkinson's Disease that is not likely anxiogenic.
