Abstract
A study of the dispersion of the galls of the galling midge Rabdophaga
salicisrhodoides in a clonal patch of the willow Salix interior is presented. Possible
explanations for gall dispersion are discussed as well as the implications of the study
of dispersion in plant gall systems on more general host-parasite system dynamics. A
brief natural history of plant galls and insect induced galls in particular is provided.
Dispersion of the galls was examined for correlation to resource abundance and to
local host density. Dispersion of the galls was found to correlate to resource
abundance, but was density independent.
