A Volumetric Study of Liquid Crystal Phase Transitions in Thermotropic and Lyotropic Liquid Crystals
Abstract
The results are reported of voltmetric studies of the nematic - isotropic and smectic C - nematic transitions for di-heptyloxyazoxybenzene (70AB), the nematic - isotropic
and smectic A - nematic transitions for cyano-octyloxybiphenyl
(80CB), and the lipid bilayer phase transition for di-palmitoylphosphatidylcholine
(DPPC). Data was taken by changing the pressure at constant temperature. Values for ~, isothermal compressibility (Km), specific volume, and ∆ V are reported.
Finally, comparisons between our data and previous work are
drawn.

NMR Studies of Trehalose in Liquid Crystal Media
Mazzola, Laura (1988)Trehalose has been catalytically deuterated at several positions in the glucose rings. Deuterium and 13C dipolar NMR spectra have been used to confirm sites of deuteration. Quadrupole, 13C dipolar and 1H dipolar splittings ... -
Determining a Separation and Degradation of 1-butyl-3-methylpyridinium bromide, N,N,N-trimethylglycinium chloride and 2-butyl-2-hydroxy-N,N,N,-trimethyl-1-aminium chloride Ionic Liquids
Kaur, Jagdeep (Kalamazoo College, 2015)Ionic liquids (ILs) are semi-organic compounds with attractive physical and chemical properties such as negligible vapor pressure, low melting points and feasible miscibility within a range of solvents. A key factor of ILs ... -
Liquid-Tissue Mechanics of Chick Limb-Budding: An Attempt to Determine Equilibrium Times of Physically Compressed Chick Limb-bud Tissues
Dykehouse, Rodney C. (Kalamazoo College, 1980)Early stages of Chick limb budding appear to be a result of morphogenetic tissue movements. The limb bud mesoderm and the surrounding flank mesoderm exhibit liquid-tissue properties which allow for cell slippage movements, ...
