    Abstract
Although handbells have existed for thousands of years, and tuned handbells since the seventeenth century, little in the way of scientific research has been done with them. Some of the research includes finding modes of vibration and patterns of sound radiation, finding how changes in alloy composition affects the bell's tone, and proposing mathematical models for the way a bell vibrates.
