Soil-D: Software to Calculate the Effective Dose Equivalents from External Exposure to Radionuclides in Soil
Abstract
One method of calculating the effective dose equivalents for
external exposures from radionuclides in soil has been derived by S. Y.
Chen and calculated using a Monte Carlo Algorithm. Due to the large
amount of time that the Monte Carlo Algorithm takes, an integral method
was developed based on that Monte Carlo algorithm to give more time
efficient results. The integral method was then revised to include
calculations for shielding materials between the source and receptor,
along with eight different possibilities for the shielding and source
materials. Then, finally a depth variation factor was added to allow
the user to vary the concentration of the radionuclides with source
depth.
