This paper begins with some general background about the Plasma Physics Laboratory and an introduction to the parallel field analyzer and microchannel plate detectors. This is followed by a discussion of the past results from using the microchannel plates and the experimental methods, including the apparatus used to test the detectors. A summary and speculation of the results is then presented. In the appendix is a discussion of a charge exchange diagnostic.en_US
