Abstract
Anti-2-5H:8C is a monoclonal antibody developed against retinoblastoma, the most common intraocular cancer of childhood. The 2-5H:C antibody recognizes a retinoblastoma-associated antigen and binds to each of 3 such cell lines obtained from patients as well as at least 1 cell line of neuroblastoma. In this study, we attempted to determine if the expression of the 2-5H:C antigen is cell cycle or cell type (neuronal vs. glial) dependent. U sing a flow cytometry technique, the cell cycle dependency of 2-5H:C antigen expression was ruled out. The 2-5H:C antigen is believed to be expressed only on tumor cells of primitive neuroectodermal origin' which express both neuron-specific enolase and glial-fibrillary-acidic protein. The antigen was also expressed on necrotic cells. The 2-5H;8C antibody should prove to be useful for diagnostic or therapeutic treatments when coupled with radiolabeled cytotoxins.
