Fecundity of Sicyonia Brevirostris Stimpson
My work involved the fecundity study of Sicyonia brevirostris Stimpson found off the coast of Cape Canaveral. The work took place at the Florida State Marine Research Laboratories in St. Petersburg, Florida. Fecundity studies have rarely been done on shrimp, and never, to my knowledge on rock shrimp. So the study involved the development.and use of a practical, simple method for fecundity determination. The study included the collection, injection, dissection, determination, and calculation of rock shrimp samples in an effort to equate size and weight of the shrimp to the amount of eggs spawned, or fecundity. The results indicated that my method, although not foolproof, has much practical use. Data generated by the study will be used in the determination of population models and population dynamics of the rock shrimp.
