Abstract
The underlying goal of differentiated instruction is to help students of differing abilities and achievements levels to have equitable, not identical, learning opportunities in the classroom. This paper explores the use of differentiated instruction in a fairly traditional classroom setting. The students are seniors in a small, Mid-western high school. Most of the classes and teachers were relatively predictable in terms of the assignments accompanying them. The students in my classes were presented with an assignment that was differentiated based on students' strengths and preferences. The discussion focuses on whether or not the element of differentiation presented to these particular students was successful.
