Placing Program into Practice: Using Positive Discipline in Social Studies and Spanish Classes within a Middle School

Positive Discipline, a strategy to reduce undesirable behavior and increase desirable behavior by reinforcing the positive rather than punishing the negative, was implemented in middle school classrooms of a midwestern inner city school. This descriptive analysis of classroom procedures in both Social Studies and Spanish classes in a middle school setting illustrated the value of a Positive Discipline on the improvement of both academic and social skills within the classroom. The seven methods of Positive Discipline were explored, and many of the fourteen Positive Discipline classroom management tools were utilized . A positive correlation was discovered between Positive Discipline and improved student behavior.
