Abstract
Andover High School, where I did my student teaching, is located in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, one of the many wealthy suburbs of Detroit. The Bloomfield Hills school district has been nationally recognized for education excellence every school year since the 1983-84 school year. The district created the Model High School, which began in the 1990-91 school year, as an alternative high school geared at interdisciplinary learning, self-motivation, and self-evaluation, designed especially for students who don't fit into a traditional high school environment. Being a product of an alternative high school myself, I chose the Bloomfield Hills district as a way of investigating first hand the latest in education innovations.
