dc.description.abstractThis year marks the 300th anniversary of the discovery of the first polyamine. Nevertheless, it is only in the past decade that the polyamines have been elevated from the status of 'waste product'. The elegant works of Russell, Raina, Cohen, Tabor, Marton, and Lipton, to name a few, have begun to uncover the important complex physiological functions of these ubiquitous molecules. Indeed, much remains to be done and the true significance of these molecules remains quite nebulous. Polyamine investigation is presently undergoing a renaissance that could prove to be quite rewarding. A significant aspect of this project was, therefore, to review the present literature on ployamine. This project was undertaken at the Midwest Oncology Center in Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Special thanks must go to LeVerne C. Leroy and Angela yang for their help and encouragement in the lab. Bob Struber deserves special thanks for his assistance with the creatinine assays.
