Abstract
During the spring quarter of 1993, I was able to teach at Kalamazoo
Central. The opportunity allowed me to broaden my perspective about
teaching and high school kids. My supervising teacher was Mr. James Long.
Under his guidance, I was able to use my skills as a teacher and work more
effectively with the students. The principal at Kalamazoo Central is Dr.
Caldwell; however, the past year was his last, and he will retire in July.
My experiences with the rest of the faculty were positive, but at times, it
was hard to gain their respect. Many of the teachers, especially my fellow
history teachers, were more than willing to help. On occasion, a handful
of teachers felt it necessary to be as unfriendly as possible. One episode
took place where a teacher went straight into my classroom, unannounced,
took my projector, without asking, and never returned it. These are the
perks of being a student-teacher.
