Recombinant DNA research technology depends on the use of one of two types of vector systems: plasmids or bacteriophage. This project involved work with one of the lambda bacteriophage vectors, Charon 4A, which has the unique property of accepting a minimum of 8.2 kbp of "foreign" DNA. This Charon 4A vector with some additional modifications makes an ideal cloning vector for use in generating a gene bank for Streptomycetes.
