Development of a Cytotoxicity Assay for the Investigation of Macrophage Activation
The activated macrophage is a powerful effector cell in the host defense system. It exhibits antibacterial, anti-tumor and antiviral properties. Various means of activating macrophages are known, but the cellular and molecular changes that constitute activation remain hidden. This investigation was designed to develop a cytotoxicity assay and to subsequently use it to study the role of prostaglandins in macrophage activation.
