Comparison of Protein Biosynthesis between Tobacco Smoke Exposed and Nonexposed Rabbit Alveolar Macrophages in Vitro
MetadataShow full item record
Protein synthesis was compared in tissue cultures of rabbit alveolar macrophages exposed to tobacco smoke and non-exposed controls. One experiment was carried out which indicated that a 9:1 dilution of tobacco smoke stimulated protein synthesis,as measured by 14C-leucine uptake, after 48 hours but not after 24 hours. Before additional experiments could be preformed, however, the rabbits contracted a lung infection which prevented the successful culture of additional macrophages. A discussion of the latest research on experimental emphysema is included in the introduction.
