PG endoperoxide, PGH2,and its analog cause platelet aggregation in PRP from human, rabbit, and rat by the release of ADP. We found that the induction of aggregation by these compounds appeared to be variable between species and between strains within the same species. Exogenous ADP consistently induced aggregation in all species tested. Thus the ADP-induced aggregation appears to be a universal mechanism while that induced by PGH2 and/or TA2 may not be.
