The Poetry Is in the Pity
Abstract
Poetry illuminates the thoughts and feelings of an age
and culture accurately, beautifully , and effectively. I
discover ed poetry's magic while searching for poems that
would verify an idea sparked by my newly-obtained knowledge
of modern European history . As I searched, I realized that
by reading the poetry of an age and culture, one can come
to understand. I, therefore, wish to present a cultural
history of early twentieth-century Europe through poetry.
I want to tell a story, or rather, allow the poets ,to tell
their own story . My role is to bring together poets who are
geographically, culturally, and often philosophically worlds
apart.
