The Treatment of the Native American in Children's Literature
Abstract
I began this project with the idea that I would go off
and write a series of child-oriented short stories to be
read by young children as well as adults. I started by
spending my first few weeks reading books about writing
children's literature. I found out that children's books
are often a child's first learning material and are
therefore a strongly influential form of media whose content
cannot be taken lightly. During these early weeks of my
project I spent some time with a four-year-old boy named
Maja. Maja helped to show me how much of an impression one
story can make and how much direct influence it can have on
a child's perception of the world outside of his immediate
environment.
