    Abstract
I present a sampling of Indian women, both typical and exceptional, and as varied as possible. I must make mention of the fact that my study revolves primarily around north Indian women. I understand that some generalizations do not hold true for the women of the south. I cover briefly how the role of Indian women has changed throughout history, then address some present-day issues.
