As an English major with an extensive background in newspaper journalism, I chose an internship in corporate communications for my Senior Individualized project primarily because I wanted to explore the other, less objective style of journalistic prose. Working full time from September 1984 to February 1985 at the Inland Steel company's philanthropic foundation in Chicago, my principal duty was to prepare, write and design the Foundation's 1984 Annual Report. In addition, I wrote and compiled several other company pUblications, including a study examining Inland's relationships with educational institutions, an informational poster describing Company loan programs, and a directory of students receiving All-Inland Scholarships. As the annual report required the greatest amount of time and creativity in actual writing, however, other projects should be considered secondary.
