Abstract
Student teaching, the culmination of the Kalamazoo College teacher preparation program, is its most valuable component. utilized all of the knowledge gained in my education classes and other experiences, such as teaching environmental education for my Career Development quarter, and applied it to practical situations in the classroom. While practical experience involved daily challenges, it was ultimately very rewarding as I observed and hopefully contributed to students' academic and personal growth. The student teaching experience forced me to grow as an individual and to evolve as a teacher through consideration of situations from this new point of view in the classroom.
Description
My student teaching experience took place at Pioneer High School in Ann Arbor, Michigan. This high school contains approximately two thousand students in grades nine through twelve. Principal Dr. Donald Jones is supported by numerous other administrators including class principals, assistant principals and class secretaries. There are seven counselors serving the racially, ethnically and socio-economically diverse student body. A school psychologist and police officer also supplement the administrative body. The teaching staff is, on the whole, very experienced; the majority have a Masters Degree in education or in the content area.
