Case Study: Student Teaching, Comstock High School
I chose Comstock as the site for my student teaching experience because the op1n1ons of the people that I sought recommended both Comstock and Mattawan as "good" schools, I really had no preference because I am from out of state, but found Comstock to be very fun, and I really enjoyed the faculty and students. The students can be try1ng at t1mes, but during those times I would tell myself, "I am sure that I had done that or someth1ng lfke that when I was 1n h1gh school," and I would be able to tolerate the m1sbehavfor, When the behav10r d1d get out of hand, I would put my foot down and remind the students that I was 1n charge. The student that I selected for my case study 1s a sophomore in one of my General Business classes. He is a black spec1al education student, who 1s defined as learning disabled. For the sake of confidentiality, I will adciress t-l1rn as Mark, When I r-entered Comstock High School, I was na1ve to the fact that Mark was being mainstreamed 1n the classroom, because he fit 1n so well socially with the other kids. A second reason that I was surprised to find that Mark was special edt was that his reading level was no worse than the rest of the class, which is comprised of freshmen and sophomores. My ignorance lasted a week or two before Mr. VanderVen told me that Mark was spec1al edt This ignorance may have lasted longer if Mr. VanderVen had not told me.
