The Program For Gifted Students at Montague Middle School
Abstract
The hypothesis for this thesis is that Montague Nellie B.
Chisholm Middle School does not provive the programs for gifted
students that it is within it's ability to provide. The data was
collected through interviews and observation as well as research.
The purpose is to investigate the problems inherant in a
gifted program in this rural school and to propose that, though
these problems should be taken into consideration, there is still
an obligation to students which it is possible for the school to
provide with it's resources.The purpose of this study is to examine whether gifted
student's at the Montague, Michigan, Nellie B. Chishlom Middle
School are getting the best educational experience Montague is
able to provide.
Montague, Michigan, is a small farming oriented town near
Lake Michigan. Students are bussed from over ten miles away from
the school and the nearest city, Muskegon, Michigan, is 15 miles
away. The people are generally politically conservative and
protestant. There are a small amount of Hispanic students which
attend the Montague Public Schools, but the vast majority are
white.
