    Abstract
The hypothesis for this thesis is that Montague Nellie B. Chisholm Middle School does not provive the programs for gifted students that it is within it's ability to provide. The data was collected through interviews and observation as well as research. The purpose is to investigate the problems inherant in a gifted program in this rural school and to propose that, though these problems should be taken into consideration, there is still an obligation to students which it is possible for the school to provide with it's resources. The purpose of this study is to examine whether gifted student's at the Montague, Michigan, Nellie B. Chishlom Middle School are getting the best educational experience Montague is able to provide. Montague, Michigan, is a small farming oriented town near Lake Michigan. Students are bussed from over ten miles away from the school and the nearest city, Muskegon, Michigan, is 15 miles away. The people are generally politically conservative and protestant. There are a small amount of Hispanic students which attend the Montague Public Schools, but the vast majority are white.
