Abstract
Portage Northern High School in Portage, Michigan is
a learning environment with quite an international flavor.
Not only have many of the students had the opportunity to
travel extensively abroad, many come from a bilingual/
bicultural home environment. Upjohn International employs
numerous engineers and chemists from around the world;
quite a few of these employees' children attend Portage
Northern. In the classes I student-taught at Northern I
had students from China, Japan, India, the Netherlands,
Switzerland, and Germany.
