I began my student teaching experience on August 26th, 1985 and finished teaching on December 6th, 1985. During this time period, I learned a great deal about my capabilities and the capabilities of the students at Kalamazoo Central High School. For the first several weeks, I became familiar with the high school, the faculty, the expectations of my supervising teacher, and the students in the classes which I would later be teaching: College English and Advanced 9th Grade English. My first day at the high school was also the first day for the permanent faculty. I attended orientation meetings which helped familiarize myself with the high school and the expectations of the administration. I felt that the first few days were very important because I was able to learn what was expected of me. I also felt that the first week of instruction was very important because the teachers established the tone in the classroom and the expectations of the students which were so important to the learning process. I was very fortunate to work under Diana Monovich who took a great deal of pride in her work and was very understanding and helpful to me. She demanded a serious atmosphere in her classroom which made the transition between her instruction to my instruction very smooth.Administrator only due to personally identifying information in case study.
