Student Teaching at Grosse Ile High School

In the fall of 1992, I did my student teaching at Grosse Ile High School in Grosse Ile, Michigan. The high school is on an island located at the mouth of the Detroit River where it opens into Lake Erie. There are about 575 students in grades nine through twelve and 4% are Asian or Hispanic. The community members are mainly middle and upper middle class people. In general, they support the school district and actively participate in the educational process. As a Spanish major and mathematics minor I had the opportunity to teach in two different content areas. Ms. Patricia Rosentreter and Mr. Jim Bennett were my supervising teachers in Spanish and mathematics, respectively. After school I assisted Mr. Steve Sims with the Women's Varsity Basketball team. For thirteen weeks I devoted my time and energy to the students I encountered in these three positions.
