The Introduction of Community Access Television in Kalamazoo
MetadataShow full item record
The Community Access Center is located in the former Upjohn Park Fieldhouse at 230 East Crosstown Parkway. Staffed by two city employees--Joan Burke, Cable Administrator, and Michael Betz, Access Coordinator, and a number of community volunteers, its purpose is to provide community members with access to television production. Community response to the opportunities made possible by the Center's opening has been overwhelming. A two day dedication/open house was held, and over 500 community members visited and toured the Center. Over 200 articles have appeared in the Kalamazoo Gazette regarding the Center's progress and its operations. Over 100 people have been trained to use the Center's video equipment since early April and the waiting list for the training classes is composed of over 200 names. No more names will be taken until late August. Why all the excitement? Because it is television.
