Abstract
Scope and Purpose of SIP- Fieldwork: To hitchhike the American road from Allegan, to New Orleans and back spending bulk of time learning true blues from old black men/women of the cotton obsessed negro obsessed Mississippi floodplains. Writing: In general to capture America as experienced by a young white man hitchhiking and backpacking sixty days on the road. In specific: To capture the culture of Mississippi Delta blues artists without the distancing intellectualism that undermines most blues research and robs the blues of the powerful immediacy of context that is the soul of the blues.
