The questions that this particular corpus poses are numerous and difficult to answer. First of all, no evidence of ceramic production has been unearthed at Berenike, although there is archaeological evidence indicating that both glass and metal were produced on-sitell. This naturally leads to two questions: where were these figurines made? And what were they doing in Berenike? I have several possible answers to these questions, which will be discussed primarily in the conclusions. The question of function is also pertinent. Why were these pieces commissioned? What purpose did they serve?
