Major Themes and Motives in Hawaiian Folklore
Abstract
The major reference on old Hawaii is the Fornander Collection as
edited by Thrum. For footnoting, however, I have used more recent
am more widely published works. The Thrum edition sits in the
reference library of the Bishop Museum in Honolulu and is out of print.
The topic for this essay was suggested by friends in Michigan.
Thanks to them, I have learned more about my native state than I would
have bothered about, otherwise.
