Abstract
The current direction of human society is unsustainable, if we continue on our current path it will inevitably lead to civilization’s collapse. In order to avoid this collapse a drastic change needs to be made in how humans interact with each other and the planet, the method to this change is sustainable development. In leading this change Millennials will need to play a vital role in the implementation of sustainable development as this catastrophe will be taking place in their lifetime. I have placed the focus on urban sustainable development because that is where the majority of the population resides and where future growth will be. I have found that this shift to sustainable development is about changing society’s focus from accumulating capital to meeting human need, and that with technology, optimism, and collaboration Millennials are up to the task.
