Abstract
This particular collection stemmed from a series of relationships and relationships
dreamed of during my senior year. All while struggling to do a SIP the previous summer
in my former major of Economics (now Political Science), I wrote about different things I
encountered, my feelings toward school and the social chaos I felt as an African
American, female, Kalamazoo College student, and the dismal perception I had of the
future of this world we live in. Some of the poems are quite dark, but they purge the
atmospheres that we have become so comfortable in, forcing us to think about "ugly"
things. Though many works have been excluded from this project to focus more on a
simplified subject matter, I do believe that what I have chosen to reflect here pilfers small
pieces of the other issues going on in my life and the lives of others around me.
