The ability to measure urinary E prostaglandins has so far been possible only in the radioimmunoassay method since quantities range from subnanogram to nanogram levels. The GLC-MS method is currently under extensive research, but to date no conclusive data has been published on this low sensitivity range. Bioassays have not been used in the measurement of urinary E prostaglandins because of the lack of sensitivity in the range of measurement needed. This communication deals with the development of a bioassay sensitive enough to measure urinary E prostaglandins and to compare data with the radioimmunoassay in order to verify these methods as reliable quantitative ones.
