The Community of God

Rosemary Radford Ruether defies standard ideas of power in the world by striving toward an inclusive community of God. However, her ideas lack a widespread understanding or systematic acceptance. She sees dreams and high ideals as necessary for our world to be sustained. Our current power structures will only sustain us in the time it takes for the powerful to reap the benefits. Although our carrying capacity is not yet known, if the progression of the current industrialization, population and development of our earth continues, scientists are not sure that the earth can sustain life. Ruether posits that humanity's current structures of power disregard human rights throughout the world . These issues affect everyone. Every person who lives without awareness and action on behalf of positive change contributes to the problem. My hope is that through this work you see the radical framework that Ruether has created in order to disembowel our current power structures into something new which aims to create an inclusive world community. She suggests that in this world people are empowered to strive toward: justice and peace on a global level, environmental sustainability, an even distribution of the wealth of our earth in both economic and educational means, and equal participation and rights within these inclusive power structures. These aims are to be achieved with the actions of individuals united as communities.
